Combines 1978 JD 4400 what is it worth

I just bought a cherry one-owner 4400 with 2600 hours. It is a '75 that has been kept inside,6 cylinder diesel, a_c, chopper,rotary screen,wheel weights...etc. I paid $2500 for it, and felt that was fair because you dont find many sweet ones anymore. Yes you can buy them for $1500, but they have been thru the mill at that price. I had to get away from the 3300 gas flat screen before I drove myself insane...I had no more patients. You have to use your own judgement...but I wouldn't go over $3000. The way to find a good one is to find an old guy retiring that took care of his equipment.

4400 w_ mudhogIJ i almost bought one, kicking myself because i didnt. oh well thats another story! a 4400 2 wh brought $1700 at a sale here just a few wks ago. had aprrox.2800hrs. very nice w_ 13' straight head. cab interior was excellent. i should have bought it, my other color 'bine was down for a week, spent more than that to get it running, could have been cutting beans.

To give you a comparison, A farmer I know on the westside of Indianapolis retired last year. At his auction an immaculate 1978 JD 4400 diesel with both heads sold for $4,000. The machine had 4,000 separator hours and the engine had approximately 1,000 hours since overhaul (crankshaft broke at 3,000 hours).
