The alternator problem is normal on them, we figured we were lucky if we got more than one year out of them on our 1440 and 1460, our 2366 has a filtered air inlet on the alternator to keep chaff out of them.
We didn't seem to have that much trouble with our 1440. Maybe one every 3rd or 4th year. I have no experience with a 1480 so just looking for advice over the smaller models. thanks for the comments Andy
The 1460 i used to have had been converted to a Delco 105 amp alternator prior to me getting it. It did not have a screen on the back and it was already failed. The local alternator shop put a new diode in it and it run fine. I then went into the Gleaner parts list for this alternator and the AGCO dealer got me the proper screen for it. I drove it for 7 years after that with no problems. I did use compressed air to blow it out a number of times over the 7 years I had it.
