It's to bad all of us farmers can't stick together. If all of us just set aside 10% of our row crop acres for one year we would have those idiots in Chicago sweatin' bullits. The problem is, we don't all stick together!!! There are always those guys who say if my neighbor's going to set aside ground and cause the price of grain to go up, Well heck, I'll just plant every acre I can and fertilize it to the max and reap the $$$$$$$$$. I'm proud to be a farmer and help feed the world but I'd like to get a fair price for what I raise. When it takes 6 or 7 bushels of corn just to visit my barber for a haircut, something is getting out of wack. Good luck to all and as us ol' farmers keep saying (THERE'S AlWAYS NEXT YEAR)

I was reading our local newspaper and in their section called "In The Past",25 years ago,1980,the local farmers were piling grain. What really got me was the price of the corn they were piling up,$3.91 !!!!per bushel!! If inflation hit corn like it does pickups and tractors, shouldn't the price be about $8.50 per bushelIJ D.W.

Gotta love those oil and gas wells in Alberta only way to keep farming. We get more money from oil and gas surface leases then we net on our farm 4000 acres.

We are too productive and unorgainized as an industry for our own good. There is nothing in the market that causes me to think that any thing is going to change in terms of prices for the next 2 -3 years unless the supply is threatened. I agree we need to throttle back by 15 - 30% for one year and the rewards paid would be felt for 2-3 years afterwards. Or as mentioned in the OT where the land set idle every 7 years. Maybe modern day application to that principal would be in order. What is the worst thing given the current state of the markets, that would happen if we idled 25% of the crop land in the USIJ I promise you the seed, fertlizer and chemical industries would take notice and the markets would as well. less labor less fuel less expenses........

Priced anhydrous today. $480 per ton. If we all just stopped putting on N next year we would save that expense and raise less corn. Would have more effect than set-aside because it would wake up the fertilizer and natural gas companies. Maybe it would be an eye opener for the rest of our suppliers also.
