There is quite a price range on the row heads. A 6 row is much cheaper than an 8 row. I would think you would want the 8 row for a 9600 and you will find them a lot cheaper at an auction than on a lot. Maybe $6-8K for a real nice oneIJ

My planter is a 6 row. That's why I need to stay with a 6 row head. Just drive faster.....grin

Just how fast can you stay on the rowIJ My little toy 55 has a 12' grain table and I can run 3.5 to 4 mph cutting 5 28" rows. I have not run a 9600 but I have run axial flows that wouldn't be anywhere near full with 6 rows of good beans. I just wonder how fast is fast enoughIJ

Only reason I want it is for down milo. If it's down enough to need a rowhead then anything you get would be an improvment over a grain table and speed is not really gonna be the issue. Trying to savage the field is.

We have an 8 row for down milo, if the milo is burnt up dry, it works well, but if it is really green leafed and blown over by the wind, 6 rows is all that combine is gonna want!

We have a set of hesston heads set up for 6 rows on 30" centers but theres two problems with this. 1: It's on a massey plat and I can't seem to find a used bish and I don't really want to buy a new one 2: Those hesston heads are a high maintenance doodaad! I don't know if a guy can even get many parts or belts for them anymore. Possibly, but kinda figured a green head for a green machine might make a heckuva lot more sense. I guess I should pursue the bish adapter a little more. Probably cheaper than a green head and we do still have a massey corn head as well. Been toying with the idea of raising some corn again in the future. lord willing, it ever rains in this part of kansas again!

I have a nice well-maintained 653A that I would like to sell. (I'm moving up from a 7700 to a 9750STS and 630F.) looking at machinefinder.com, these heads are worth less here in central Il than in KS. Email if interested.

We have a set of Heston Headhunters sitting in the barn we bought at an auction many years ago. I think there is 7 of them. We've never had them on a machine and looking at the paint I bet they were only run 1 season. If you are interested in them and keeping your MF head, let me know. That will be a lot cheaper solution to down milo! located in Ark City, KS. Mike

Mike, have you or anyone else got any pictures of those hesston headhuntersIJ I've heard of them but don't have a clue as to what they look like or how they work. Cheers, Sando

Sorry I don't have any pictures, and I couldn't find any on the web either. The headhunters are row units that mount on a rigid head. The have belts with fingers that pull the crop up into the headers. I think some prefer them to a row head in down milo, but others like the JD better.
