Don,t take this the wrong way. I am a DIE HARD John Deere Guy, but all of the electrical issues I had on My new 9660 drove Me over to a Case IH 2388. Always ran Deere combines since 60,s until 01. At that time I traded for a one year old 2388. It was one of those that Deere gave the even trade for 9750 deals. This machine gave Me more service with less trouble than any combine I ever owned. last year We traded for a new 9660, was that a mistake. This past fall We traded back for another 2388. Just don,t make the mistake and buy an 8010, that would be worse than Your Deere problems. Best of lUCK Papaw

locate the thick wiring harness that goes on left auger side of combine, the canbus wires are notorious for rubbing in the area just below the hydraulic resevoir and shorting out there. I had a similar problem on a combine this summer and it turned out to be just that. If its not that then i would visually inspect that huge wiring harness front and back, since its intermittent that may mean it only shorts out when you hit a bump or something causing the wire to move around or check all spots that ground wires are attached to the chassis. The ground wires may be loose causing a shorting problem. One that i can think of right away is on the bottom of the grain tank area right next to the engine on the non augerside. Hope this helps, pls post your solution to the problem if any.

I share your sentiment, Papaw, although I was an IH Axial Flow fan from 1979 up until 1997, then I traded for a Deere 9610, which was a very reliable machine. The 9650 and 9660 I've had since then have been literally "nickel and diming" me to death, and my local dealer's obnoxious attitude has been dificult to take. Same problem as gben; - wiring! I, too, am considering going back to an Axial-Flow or Massey, although I'm also considering CAT now that we have dealers in Ontario.

We had the very same problem. It was a corroded contact at the moisture sensor, that goofed up the CAN bus. JD's electric is the sorriest I have ever seen. There is not a single day, where not one of our combines has some electronic glitch or break down. Ralf

Go out and buy a wheelbarrow,broom-handle,pair of scissors and a fan,happy harvesting.3000 hrs behind the wheel of an sts and most problems remain.When those purchasing sts's wake up from their dream they will find J.D.does not care.

Well, after 4 DAYS in the shop, they have finally found a wire burned in the main wiring harness and a burned relay in the solonoid stack at the rear left of the machine. They think lightning hit it. Do not know what they are going to do about the bill but they promised to "take care of us" on it. Just have to wait and see I guess but it is finally back in the field and APPEARS to be working normally. Not sure how much more of these Deere electrical problems I can stand. I am not at all convinced that it was lightning but maybe. Just thought you guys would want to know what we finally found. Thanks for all the help.

disregard the above post, THE COMBINE IS NOT FIXED!! Back in the shop doing the same thing, today a trouble shooter from the factory spent all afternoon with his laptop and the combine trying to troubleshoot it. As of yet he has not found the trouble. Quit for the day and said he would be back early in the morning after a conference call with deere engineers. Stay tuned, the saga continues.

I was a service tech for Deere for many years, Yes you are right they have had a lot of electical problems, but you the farmers have ask for everything to be almost automatic. you want to farm thousands of acres not behind the wheel checking and making needed adjustment yourselfs, you want it to do it for you. You want to set in an office and type on a computer and farm....i.e. autosteer, autoharvest, check fuel, running time etc. get real you are bringing it on yourselfs. John Deere does care, I have worked with them. Farmers are the hardest people to make happy. Yes, I am one myself, I have saw both sides.

Hi Jake, it's not only electrical problems being referred to i have problems repaired under warranty but only replaced with more faulty parts naturally these also failed.JOHN DEERE DOES NOT CARE.The latest machines have visible faults before they have done any work recently i phoned J.D. and told them what i had seen JOHN DEERE DOSE NOT CARE.As for sitting in the office and doing the farming only an idiot would try this, farming is hands on.If a manufacturer puts these almost automatic devices in a machine they should work.We pay for them we have a right to get what we payed for not the junk provided by J.D.Iwill emphasise again JOHN DEERE DOES NOT CARE.Farmers may be hard people to please perhaps this is because they are the most ripped off of people.

I do feel for everyone out there haveing problems with there combines. But please don't call me an idiot. I have been farming for over 20 years, and worked for a short time......5 years for a John Deere Dealer. On the road repairing simple problems, to complex ones. And I never saw Deere not want to try to help, or never felt that way at school. I feel your dealer is letting you down, and you judge that to be Deere. All I know is I can make one Phone call and get anything I want done, Its called releations with the dealer...............complain all you want on this forum....or go red....or whatever.....It sounds to me if you are not happy then the company sucks.
