We had a 1981 2745 with a 24 speed tranny. It was fine, cost us only $1000.00 in repairs in over ten years, which was for the Air Cond. system. However make sure if you buy one it is a later model one, 81-83. The early ones had about a dozen updates that were supposed to be done. If the dealer was up on the bit and informed the owners of the updates and carried them all out, the tractors weren't too bad. Unfortunately more dealers than not didn't do this and left so many unsatisfied customers that this 2000 series almost single handedly wiped out all the Massey owners in my area. The 2675 and 2705 were probably the best ones. The 2745 was ok if it had the inline Bosch fuel pump on the engine. I would stay away from the 2775 or 2805 because the 640 V-8 Perkins is a fuel hog and toooooooo costly to repair and the tranny didn't fair very well behind that much power. And yes, if the 8 speed tranny will suit your needs it is about bulletproof. The 24 speed shifts harshly except under load and is too expensive to repair. They have a kit to turn a 24 speed into an eight speed but it will cost more than the tractor is worth.
