Make sure the machine has the heavy duty final drives. With those drives,very few differences between it and the 66. It has one less bed auger and the smaller 5.9 Cummins motor. That is it! And believe me, that motor is very capable. All in all, ours was a great machine that did alot of work for us.

Ok, I forgot the bin extension. But I have yet to see one without at least an aftermarket extension equal to the 66 after purchase. In my area, very few 66's have 30.5 tires, but like Ham said that could vary with regions. I am pretty sure that the 66's have 5 bed augers and 44's have 4. Maybe somebody else can chime in on the bed augers.

The 66 has 4 bed auger's and I am pretty sure they come with the same standard final drives. All of the 66's in my area have big top's on them which would put them in the 240 bushel area. I have not seen a 66 without 30.5's

The 44 and 66 are the same except the engine. Same auger bed and cleaning system if I remember correctly. The unloading auger can be ordered how the original wanted it. That will be driven more by the head size. Have known several who have run 6 row heads without any problem, 4 to 4.5 mph.

44s and 66s have 4 augers. 88s have 5 augers. The threshing_cleaning systems are identical on 44s and 66s.

2144 and 2166 are same except for engine- 2166 has 8.3 liter like magnums, 2144's have 5.9 liter like maxxums - other than that they are the same machine, except for bin extensions. 2144 spec'ed with 145 bu tank, 2166 has 180 bu tank. put 2166 extensions on it. I heard of a guy in this area who cranked the pump a "little" bit, and runs an 8 row head on a 2144 (put some weight on the back end). This guy runs on lower yielding side hills, which he had to slow down for anyways, so he figured he would run a wider head to get off them quicker. horsepower of 2344 machines is higher than early 1480's......

I have a 1640, not exactly like a 2144 but close. My neighbor has a early 80's 7720. We've run together for two years. Both running 6 row 30 corn heads. He can out harvest me by a little. The main reason is because the 7720 has a 200 bu. tank and mine is smaller even with the add-on bin extensions. We don't unload on the go, dump into trucks at the end of the field. I think unloading on the go would put my 1640 ahead of the 7720. In corn, I can drive faster than he can. In beans we are pretty much the same. The first time my neighbor rode with me, he was surprised how much quieter and nice my 1640 cab was over his 7720 cab. I think the heads you are asking about will be fine. You may need the third lift cyclinder though.

We just bought a 1998 2344 combine and we heard that, that combine could handle an 25ft head and an 8 row corn head but a 6 row, 17.5ft- 20ft head was the best so i think a 6row, 17.5-20ft head would work alrite justin
