Combines 2188 Chopper

If an axial flow doesn't have a chopper it has a beater to get material out the back, I wouldn't try running with it off.(Unless someone on here has tried it) On my 1688 I pull out the retractable knives, drop the pan to the bottom of the slots, and run it on the slow pulleys. It doesn't seem to cut it much at all. I agree, running all 8 straight seperator bars brought my rotor loss to nearly nothing in wheat. Wolffman

I'm wondering if I could take every other hammer out of the chopper so it wouldn't chop straw up, and it would be still in balance.

Converted: That would be worth a try. Are you sure the rotor isn't doing most of the choppingIJ We bale right behnd our combine {specialty rotor) with chopper on slow setting and knives pulled and it works great. The straw makes a nice small square bale and breaks apart well when bedding. I know my neighbor has a standard rotor without a chopper, and it's windrows seem to disappear because it grinds the straw to much. Good luck! Wolffman
