Combines 2188 feeder house removal

Thats the smartest way that way the header holds the front end of the feeder housing and then you can just worry about supporting the feeder housing itself along the incline underneath towards the top.

If that's all you're going to do I don't think you even need to take the feeder house off. I just changed my beater blades and did it from the bottom. Take the front panel off under the front of the cab and you can get to the ele. ears. Unless you're combine is different than mine.

I use a rolling floor shop hoist. lower front of feeder house until it touches bottom support legs. Then wrap a chain around the feederhouse drive shaft. Put slight amount of pressure on chain, take out pins and you can roll the whole unit out. When finished, simply roll feederhouse into place and put in blocks and pins. Works slick, especially because I work by myself.

You don't need to remove the feeder to do either one of those jobs. To renew the beater blades, just remove the short top cover of the feeder and work from above. To change elephant ears, remove the half-moon cover at front top of rotor behind the cover held on by two twist fasteners. It may help if you drop the concaves on the left side and have some one to help and hold bolts while you work on the nuts. I have done the job by myself without dropping concaves. If you are changing elephant ears, get a set of Marlin Blades and treat yourself to a smoother, easier running machine. These are available from loewen dealers. Be sure and use the same number of blades as you have now. CardaleBob

Do the marlin ears work good in corn soybeans or mostly small grainsIJ
