Combines 2188 HP increase

What is the perceived bottleneck that you need increased HP forIJ I wanted to crank up the HP too in my '95 2188 to try and increase capacity of the rotor in tough conditions. Instead I installed an AFX rotor and now my limit is the clean grain elevator! Amazing results and using far less fuel and HP. Best improvement I've ever experienced in harvesting capacity.

At this point, I really can't justify the AFX. When things get more worn, that is what I hope to do. What all is updated with the kit besides the rotor, and about how much dose it costIJ Thanks for the info.

Increasing the horsepower will accomplish your stated concerns rather quickly - belts, gearboxes - and also a lot of fuel. An AFX rotor costs in the neighborhood of $4500-4700. My machine had a worn out transition cone (3rd one),grain tank, clean grain, return augers and other things so it was pretty involved. Of course all the flow vanes were replaced while the rotor was out. I put in all heavy duty parts this time so it was pricey. If I remember right the heavy duty parts can cost about 3 times the regular. Total parts, final drives and transmission oil changes, inspection, labor = $9700. Here's a tip: I had the grain tank augers balanced and boy did that make a difference. Really smooth. Maybe you already do that but it was a new one for me. I want this machine to last me another 3 years minimum. I harvest my own crops only of 1400+ acres soybeans, 200 milo, 250 yellow corn (I raise about 900 acres of seedcorn). It's a pretty good fit for this operation.

That's a good idiea to balance the tank augers, mine sure needs it. My dealer is't very knowledgable about the afx kit, and neither am I. He thought it included pulleys and other things that I didn't feel like I needed to replace yet. He thought it cost around 6500 7000 dollars. I don't have any belt problems at all, that is why I have been thinking of just a little more hp. I was not aware they sold just a rotor. Have you noticed a big differance in corn and milo, or just beansIJ Thanks for the info and tip.

Granted, I went from a standard rotor to the AFX so the difference in capacity was pretty substantial. In soybeans it's like a brand new machine - never slugged the rotor once - came close a couple times but it kept on turning. I use either a 30 flex head or a 12R30 JD rowcrop head. In harvesting our milo this year, I picked it all pretty early. The dryland was falling down (we had another really nasty dry and hot summer) and I wanted to get all I could and the irrigated was really wet with green stalks_leaves. The best irrigated milo was in the 190's per acre and I just had to go slow for the cleaning shoe to do it's thing with all the green material, but no problems with the rotor. In corn I was running the rotor speed 100 rpm less than before and had a super sample - nice and clean with whole cobs out the back. I've never had whole cobs before. As far as fuel usage, in soybeans I could run 2 hours longer per tank - that's fairly significant in my opinion. The only struggle I had this year was with the header drive - the head would just stop for what seemed no reason. Tried new belts - nothing. Tried belt dressing (my uncle used to call my aunts homemade jelly belt dressing)and that didn't work either. Increasing the tension on the idler_clutch didn't work. Finally installed a new drive pulley for the head_feeder house, the one right on the gearbox and that cured it. Smooth sailing from then on.

you might want to update your feeder clutch tightener for next year.417871a2 w_o rocktrap and417870A2 w rocktrap. with bt corn and larger heads. the old one won't hold unless it is in a1 shape. old pulley wore out because of slippage.

Thanks for the suggestion. Asked my dealer about it today and ordered the kit. looks like it's basically a new belt and stronger spring with all the other goodies to make it work - $328. By the way, I asked about speeding up the cleaning fan for more capacity and the mechanic cautioned about going over 1300rpm. Vanes could break.

How does the wear on the transition cone look now that you've run the AFX rotorIJ Should it wear betterIJ I've save 1_3 by using loewen parts.
