If your rotor loses speed but not your engine, then you must be slipping the rotor belt. Either the torque sensor is not working properly, or you have a faulty part e.g.-weak spring, cam follower bearing, or cam itself. I recommend installing the 500lb. spring part number 110844a2. This will hold more tension on the rotor belt, it sure helped our 2388.

If I remember correctly, you need to change the helix ramp assy when you go to the heavier spring in order for the drive to react to load changes properly. Might want to also check the main thresher drive belt tension, I had experienced the same thing and that was all that was wrong. Rotor would lose rpm and the engine would not, shaft speed sensor on rotor was the first thing to pick it up.

Had the same problem last year w_ our 2188 (1800 sep. hrs.). Took it apart this summer. All that was wrong was the cam rollers siezed up and wouldn't roll properly. Instead it was sliding on the helix and wearing a flat spot on it. Spring was still good. Changed the rollers, buffed up the helix, cleaned up the spring and thrust bearing. Put it back together and it worked great.

That is the correct PN for the 500lb spring, and that's the only one listed in the 2188 manual. I think the 400lb spring was for the earlier machines, and at some point the 2388 went to a 600lb spring. In 2003 the rotor drive pulleys were made larger and the spring was increased to 900lb. I'm pretty sure the 500lb sping is the way to go on a 2188, but if someone has tried the 600lb I would like to hear the results.

We put a 2388 torque sensor on a 1990 1680 a couple years ago. It works very well. I would highly recommend it. Unfortunately, I do not know which cam angle it has or which spring. I would not hesitate to put the 500lb spring in a 1680. Make sure you have the needle bearing under the spring rather than the fiber washer and make sure the sheave moves freely when you have it apart.

I have a 96 2188, how can you know if it has the 500Ib spring or the 400. Is there a partn on the spring. Also wanting to know if you can put the 600pound spring on a 2188. Which modifications would it need to handle it.

There is no 600lb spring,400lb is standard and the 500lb is optional. The 900lb is for the new large torque sensor. The free length on a new 400lb spring is 9", and 500lb spring is 10".
