That is definitely a problem because I went through it with my 2188 (1996) and shortly after they changed them to a hyd. drive on the 2388s. Mine actually broke the shaft inside the air screen and had to replace it. When I was putting it all back together I could see that care needed to be taken to reinstall it so that it is as balanced as possible and that it didn't rub on the seal. After 3 years it hasn't come apart on me put once in a while my alarm will go off when I have a tail wind. I don't know for sure what's happening back there but the alarm only lasts for a few seconds. I see Case makes a heavy duty shaft that you can buy now. I'm sure there's more people out there that know more details than me. Good luck.
