Oly, When that hex shaft in the middle breaks they will be separated. I hope that doesn't happen to you. The augers are not fastened in any way, all you can do is pry them apart. If your 2188 is a 97 model, serial n193725 and after it should have the floating shaft. Get that shaft freed up in both the front and back auger and put some anti sieze on it before you put it back togeather. If your 2188 is prior to n193725 consider replacing the front auger so you can use the floating hex shaft. That sure is a pain in the behind when that shaft breaks and both augers are full of grain. The bracket that holds the belt up is probably missing or broken. It goes from the engaging pulley to the drive pulley. I had the same problem a couple years back. New bracket and smooth sailing.
