Combines 2200 series advise

For chopping up the stalks, the 1083 can't be beat. But to do that job takes alot of upkeep with the knifes. I traded for a 2208 with the hyd. deck plates and field tracker. The head has worked great for me. I like the design of the snouts that run along ground, they have a little curve up to them so you can run the head right on the ground and rarely push trash. And the deck plates are great.

I had a 1000 series head from when they came out until last year. I always liked the 1000 series and had no trouble except for wear. last year I too was debating if I should get a 2208 or fix my old one. The 2200 isn't quite as agressive with the stalks as a 1000 series, but it does do a pretty good job of chopping them. I have no complaints about the 1000 but am glad I have the 2208 now. The corn feeds in smoothly, the hydralic deck plates are great and the snouts really floats without pushing trash.

Have to say I would buy a 1083 with poly and adj. deck plates if I could get the option. this header does not feed into the 2366 that I run it on. Hope it works alot better on a 2388. I also have a 1044 ,this year the corn was flat I think the 44 head did as good or better job and it is steel . all that said I really like the adj. plates it is a must have option! New Holland has just not ' cut it' on this farm as yet . No pun intended but it just does not cut the stalks as good as my 1083 @ 6 season's old. just my 2cents.
