Combines 2208 leaving Corn On The Ground

Two years ago a customer phoned me about excessive cob breakage. The breakage was occurring between the 2208 cross auger and the 3 strand feeder chain. The 2208 cross auger brings most of the ears to the center of the feeder house. The middle chain, together with so many slats overlapping at the center, was restricting the cobs from entering the feeder house. This resulted in excessive cob breakage and shelling. To see if this is happening with your machine, shut the header off while moving in the crop, then bring the hydrostat to a stop and let the separator clean out. Then shut the separator and engine down. look for a pile of cobs in the middle entrance to the feeder house. Also check the condition of the cobs in the feeder house to see what percentage are broken before they get to the rotor. Rubber paddles were put on each side of center of the cross auger to kick the ears into the feeder chain before they reached the center. On one machine the 3 chain feeder was replaced with a two chain version. On another machine we removed every other slat on each side of center. In each case cob breakage was greatly reduced. I am not familiar with the update kit mentioned in the previous posting. Perhaps it corrects the problem you are having. If you wish to discuss this with me you are welcome to phone 1-800-745-1680.

Upon advice from my dealer I put the drum into the middle position for this cornhead. It seems to feed a lot better, and I also put the plate in behind the field tracker that is recommended. Now I have a problem of the header taking to much stalk in and wrapping on the auger. So far, I should of kept my old 1083, lot's of issues with this 2208.
