Dad runs a 10 row, 22" corn head (was a 864 head to start with) on his late 1660 (has some of the 1666 upgrades). He put on the 3rd cyclinder, 6 weights in the back, would put more on but chaff spreader bracket is in the way. Runs the 24.5-32 tires on front and whatever came on the back. Straddles 4 rows and have stalk stomppers on the rows where the tires run. Has not had any problems and has been running this setup for about 10 years now.

Depends on the serial number of your machine. Some of the later 88's were shipped 12 row ready. If memory serves right you will need a 3rd lift cylinder, although I would recommend a fourth to prevent twisting the feeder house There is plenty of flow capability withing the header controller, control valve, and pfc pump for this. There is also a heavier front plate, or channel under the feeder house. Weight bracket for the rear axle, would also recommend the HD Power guide axle as well due to two steering cylinders rather than one so you can steer the beast without the head on. May need to add fluid to the rear tires. Std. 2wd axle with 14.9 tires not near heavy enough. Should have at a minimum big single fronts or 20.8 duals with dual setup front axle. Increased sump capacity on clean grain elevator. The 12 row head weighs nearly 10,000 pounds.

I had one on a 98 it's a batch need lots of weight and 3 cylinder for sure slows head down you'll have trouble with feeder drive newer machines have 5 rib belt if yours is three put it all on new before you start and a heavier tightener on the feeder I would suggest round bar concaves their is a lot coming in with a 12 row head

Does a 12 row head REAllY make that much differenceIJ I often think about this while I wait for the grain buggy to catch up while I'm sitting there with my 6 row. Any more rows would actually be inefficient wasting time, manpower and especially fuel. Somebody must be making so much money that they need to throw it away.

I'm not sure about Case but Deere's 12-20 weighs about 7500n's and an 18-20 weigh's about 10,000n's We run both and a 12-20 weighs a little less than a 12-30. Also a 12-20 does not bring in that much more crop than a 8-30 they are only a few inches wider.

we carry a 1230 deere head on a 1680 with no problems in 3 years. we added 1200 lbs to rear standard axle and use 4 lift cylinders. it has 18.4 duals and bin ext.
