Combines 234 cage sheller

I have had plenty of experience with this machine. The key secret to this machine is the use of cage retarders and keeping the cage full. The retarders are half circles of cast iron that regulate the speed of the material going through the cage. I have found the retarders are most effective with a full circle towards the dischard end of the cage and maybe another half circle near the middle_rear. They are installed with bolts throught the cage slots. You must remove the sheller from the picker, open a service door that runs the width of the cage. Your owner's manual should explain this procedure. Do you have the standard sheller or the multipurpose unitIJ the use of retarders is the same for either. The retarders work in principle to the backdoor gate on your 729. These are great machines. Very few problems, good capacity and very good grain sample. You have got to match Horsepower_number of retarders_corn volume for the best results, and the results will be very good. My Dad had a multipurpose unit with the roller mill attachment. He would roll high moisture(20-25%) corn and put it in a pit for the cattle. Cattle eat that stuff like candy! If i can help annymore let me know.

Thanks for the info. Hauled home the picker and husking bed today, once the units are set properly they mount real quick, glad I didn't buy that 2-MH last month. BTW using shimmed 4020 mounts on the rear works but not well, they set the picker back 3 inches more than my tractor needs. Gonna weld up some mounts just for me.

Which sheller did you get, the standard or multipurposeIJ The multipurpose I believe has some heavier components and has a paddle assembley at the top of the auger to the wagon. The paddles will throw the corn so hard it will bounce out the back of the wagon unless you put a canvas sack or somthing on the spout to slow the corn down. You may want to check the bearings in the gear boxes that drive the gathering chains and stalk rolls. They are easy to replace while the front unit is off the tractor. I hope you unit has the live tip stalk rolls. These were on the later machines and are far better than the guide rod style on the earlier ones. Good luck at harvest. let me know how you got along and if you have any problems or questions please write back and I will help as much as I can.

I think I have a standard, it has a screen on the front. No attachments other than the flinger on the auger. looked closer at my picker and it says 234 Basic and a 3nnn serial number.
