How tight are you running the chainIJ You should adjust it with the front drum in the middle slot and tighten it so the lowest hanging slat is about 1_8 inch off the feeder house floor.

I'm coming over from the silver side, but we have had the exact same issue with one of our feed chains. The first time it happened I welded one up, I believe, but after that it became obvious that there was a problem with the chain. I don't remember what brand the chain was, but I would guess it was OEM. Next one has had no issues. Irv

that's exactly how I'm doing it. and besides, if it was too tight I can see that it would be hard on bearings, but I can't see how it would hurt these tabs like it is. shouldn't be much pressure on them - as far as I know

this is the second one it's been happening to. It's our third red machine. first time I've seen this kind of thing happen

Just a thought....Is your front drum the type that has the "channel" area for the chainIJ If so, would you think that the chain is being pulled into recessed area to strongIJ JWK

That has been suggested to me too. Although I've yet to take it apart to really see I've never really heard of this one before. We used to have a 1660 and we wore out that drum so bad that it started to split, but the chain never gave us the trouble that this one is giving. Perhaps that's what's happening then.

I have found that the plastic inserts that you would rivet to the feeder drum(stone retarder) in the 2 channels are some of the best valued items from CIH. I changed out my first feeder chain at 2150hrs and and there was probably life left in it,but it was the end of the season so I changed it the following season and also because I've heard from a friend what happens when one lets go at harvesting rpm's,not pretty! My previous combine didn't have them and the chain would last approx. 1200 hrs. Seems your tension is correct. I'll try to put chain lube on every time the heads are off at the front of the feeder house with it running at idle. Hope this helps a bit.
