Combines 2366 oil consumption

Couple of things to keep in mind. Check the oil level about 15 minutes after shutting the engine down. Oil expands about 10% from ambient temperature to operating temperature. With a crankcase holding 5 gallons that accounts for 2 qts expansion. The benchmark for oil consumption that most manufacturers use that I am aware of is 1% oil to fuel. In other words 1 gallon of oil to every 100 gallons of fuel. One other possibility could be valve stem oil seals. Check with your dealer on this one. Hope this helps.

Have you cleaned or replaced air filter element. Some times filter will look good but motor will suck oil by rings. Have you changed brands or type of oil (30 to 15-40) this might cause increase in oil use. First place to look is the air filter..

I have a 2366 that is three seasons old and has used 1l_10hrs. since new and we sometimes use more if you let the air filter get clogged. Case had me keep track of the fuel and oil consumption for the season. When was all said and done they did nothing for me and told me I was lucky it wasn't worse. They said that 8 gal_hr. fuel useage was good and 16 was the limit. Maybe when trade time rolls around again they learn my limit of exceptance.

Thanks for the replys. I use Cen-Pe-Co 15w40 for my oil. I use this in everything we own from auto, lawn mower, to combine. The 2366 is the only piece of equipment I have trouble with. Even my 95 GMC pickup with 186000 miles doesn't require oil to be added between oil changes. I also keep the air filter blown out every few days. It was blown out clean before the last 40hrs. This combine seems to use about 10gal._hr. thanks.

Maybe you needed to by an old JD6600! Mine never used any oil.

In our 3rd season we operated our 2366 399hrs' used 10270 litres of fuel and consumed(not including service oil change) 35 litres of oil. We use Castrol RX super oil, Not sure if that is available in the US. We are not happy with the oil consumption, and our dealer tells us all US motors will do the same due to higher emmission standards needing to be met by higher exhaust and combustion temperatures.

I've had 1990 1680 since new. The first year they told me it used oil because it was new, the second year because I did not push it hard enough to properly seat rings, the third year no one seemed to know why. I gave up worrying about it but could never figure out why my best friends 1680 used almost no oil and we ran side by side most of the time. I have a feeling the cummins engines were not as uniform in many areas as the 466's.
