Combines 2388 460

I've never run a 2388, but they're supposed to have a lot of capacity, on the other hand, we own a 480, and this summer I spent 2 weeks in a 460, 36 ft. head and about 25-30 bu. durum. It seemed like a dog to a 480, so I don't know, its probably in between. I've also run 470. IT would suprise me if a 2388 could hold its own to that.

I had a 2388 and switched to a 460 In my opinion the 460 is about 1_3 more capacity than a 2388. Just a comment. If you have a standard rotor, take out the fish back bars and replace them with smooth ones. It will help your capacity tremendously

I would like to hear more about the smooth bars. What crops did they help you inIJ Did you ever try them in green stem soysIJ We just got our first standard rotor and would like some info on how to set it up for wheat, milo, and green stem soys. Thanks, Mike

was wondering is your 460 an "r"IJIJIJIJIJ we are looking at a 01 470, have a 2388 presently..... they tell me the 460r and the 470 have similar capacity...... your thoughts please....

To answer a couple questions one one posting, the 460 would absoultely eat a 2388's lunch. I know of 3 farmers around here that traded 2188_2388 in on 450's and absolutely love them. As far as a 460r and a 470, the 01 470 are the current 460r. They changed the rotors and the HP and cab on the 01 470's in 2002 and made them and R series, the old version of the 470 became the 460R if that makes any sense

I removed the fishback bars out of my 2388 and put in smooth bars. This really helped in green stem beans. The adjustable vanes in the rotor cage were constantly being destroyed due to the pressure of the fish back bars on the rotor. Once the bars were out the combine pulled much easier and the roping of green stem beans in the rotor ceased. The quality of the sample also improved

cats rule, I'm very interested in learning about how to make a standard rotor work in tough crops like damp wheat or green stem beans. Did you have any of the straight rasp bars on the front of the rotorIJ I think as many as 8 can fit on an 80 series. Did you use disruptorsIJ Feel free to email me if that's more convienent. I only combine corn and soybeans. Soybeans have been green stem the last 4 years. That makes the material extremely hard on the inside of the combine. All I can comment on is that when I pulled the spiked bars off the back of the rotor all of my problems went away. I have never used a disrupter. I did try the back concave with sickle sections on it. It was somebodies attempt to make the combine perform like it had a chopper on it. The only thing it did was waste $500.00 of my money to buy it. If any body wants the concave(fits a 2388)answer back and I will sell it cheap.
