The air element on my 2388 is blocked with fine material that would easily pass through the rotary screen. I removed the rotary screen and all the paint was worn off the entire way around so it must have contact. You cant get clean air from the dustiest part of the machine no matter how good your brush is. A clean air location is the only way. The dealers are also trying to sell a new and improved bat for your spreaders to try to throw the chaff further. Don't be fooled by this.

I have a 99 2388 and I have a lot of straw in my compartment to. I have been told I need a new brush but it looks pretty good to me. My door needs some adjusting but I also found a gap in the metal on my machine. It is in the top right hand corner where the pieces of sheet metal meet. I sealed mine with silicone calk and adjusted my door to fit tighter. I have not started to cut milo yet so I don't know if this fixed my problem or not. Those brushes have some adjustments to them and I learned on my 1680 you want the smallest gap to be where the fixed brush wipes off the rotary screen.

I just got a call from my dealer on Sept 19 about some update on the rotary screen on 2388's I don't know if this will solve your problem but you could call your dealer and see I have a 1998 2388 so I don't think it matters how long you have had it. Also there was an update with the location of where your air filter sucks the air from they did this on my machine as well hope this helps
