there is an upgrade that you should get done under warranty,if your 2388 is a 2000 model it will already have this though, see your dealer and they should put the kit on for you. although even without the upgrade there shouldn't be that much trouble assuming that you are blowing the air cleaner out every day.

My dealer has taken the snorkel to the rotary screen off and replaced it with a plastic elbow joint which sits up about two feet in the air. Similar to the 2188. They then put a turbo type top on to help reduce so debris. I have also seen one that sits about eight feet in the air, with some slits cut in the end for air entry. This type could be removed at the base for transport. I have not had a chance to operate this mod yet but it would have to be a vast improvment. An interseting point is that when the original snorkel was removed the cyclone cleaner that returns debris to the exhaust had six holes blocked, so no way could the original system be effective. Hope this may help.

The conversion kit that draws air from the radiator compartment completly eliminated our problem w_ plugging the air filter and_or the intake.

We had the same air cleaner pluggage trouble on NH tx-66 that had the duct work running into the radiator housing. Removed the ductworks and put a turbo II precleaner right on top of the air filter canister. Also put a turbo II on a haybuster hay grinder. In both casses the turbo II pretty much cleaned up the air filter pluggage.

I am harvesting cereals in Australia as low as 4% moisture and also running a chopper. Quite a lot of dust at rear of machine. Working alongside a 2188 he could get three days before a cleaner blow out, I was getting 4 hours. The problem was not as bad during canola harvest as there was higher moisture and bulkier trash.
