Combines 2388 Better Rotor Performance

There is a company in Canada(I think) that is making a conversion kit, I can't remember their name but somebody will know. However, if I remember right, if your rotor needs much work at all it will be just as cheap to update to an AFX rotor and your used specialty rotor still has some value. Oh, and the AFX rotor will increase capacity quite a bit from what I hear. Chads

The auger retrofit for the elephant ears is made by Stewart Steel in Alberta Canada. The smaller Marlin ears are sold by loewen who is also in Canada but many aftermarket parts places in the US sell their stuff. Canadians don't have much rice but they combine a lot of cereals under some tough conditions.

Just installed AFX rotor $4700.00 + tax extended wear cone $1500.00+tax extended wear cage $1200.00 +tax new large rotor driven pully with heavy spring $1000.00 + tax extended wear vanes were included with cage and cone this was installed on a 97 2188 I felt it was better to spend money on updating my machine than a 7 year note of 30000.00+ dollars with all the uncertanty in agriculture, all labor was done by us in our shop, I have a specialty rotor 2000 hrs, 2yrs on elephant ears and extended wear vanes and chrome spikes very little wear ,south louisiana it's worth about 1000.00 dollars hope this helps you make a decision IJIJIJIJIJIJIJIJ

I'm just west of Eunice, go with the extended wear elevator if you plan on keeping your machine we've installed extended wear aurger pkg , all unloading system all shaker system rebuilt trans in 03 put 900-32 r2 on front 23.1-26 on rear feeder rebuilt this season running 1052 drapper header 25ft. You know Quentin ZaunbrecherIJ I used to work with him when I worked with Deltapine Seed. I was in Ark. and north lA. His dad is in the seed and chemical business down there in Eunice. I figured there was some rice being cut down there. Ours is heading here, which is about on par with where we usually are at this time. We were lucky though, our consultant told me the other day that there are still folks who haven't flooded their rice yet! They weren't able to get their levees up after they dry seeded for all the rain. We are going with extended wear everything. I still haven't decided about the AFX rotor, I'm looking at the kit out of Canada that replaces the elephant ears on the existing rotor with auger fligting very much like the AFX. My rotor is in good shape with the extended wear rice spikes, and I hate to spend that much money! We have 35.5x32 tires up front and the skinny 18.4x30 in the back. They do well as long as their is a bottom under the mud. I have thought about putting wider tires in the rear. What did you have to do to make those fitIJ Ours almost touch the tailings elevator now. I've heard of Quentin, probably met him before at suppers but I'm not good at remembering, about rotor do you salt your rice for harvest aid IJ I know from cheneyville north they like to use salt to aid harvest if so I wouldn't mess with the AFX not much green matter to harvest we do all 2nd cropping so no salt is used, for rear of combine to fit large tires we extended the frame back used 2_ one inch plates on each side of rear frame at pivot moved pivot out of frame 6 inches back used 2- 3 inch spacers bolted inside of extentions bolted rear pivot thru spacers and extention added about 6-10 inches of hydro hose to steerring ram good luck MATT

Thanks for the reply. No, we don't generally use sodium chlorate to dessicate our rice, unless it is really green. We do use it or Gramoxone on Group IV soybeans if needed. The main reason I was considering the AFX is for when we have down rice. A couple of years ago we had a bad storm and a lot of the rice fell flat on the ground. We were going something like 1_2 mph, we usually run around 3 mph. And sometimes we have soybeans that get a disease and the stem stays green. The AFX is supposed to help in that area. Keith, Getting big tires on the back of a factory 4WD is pretty straight forward as long as you can tolerate the rear ending up high. We have 28l26's of the back of our machines. One has bias and the other radial. I really like the radials, which we run 6 psi in. Neither one falls in at all. If you are running the front axle in the low position you will need to switch it to the high, but I bet you already have that done in rice. I'll send you some pictures. Mike
