Combines 2388 engine waffling at high idle

I'm betting its in the govenor. The wastegate wouldn't make it do that I wouldn't think. We have a 8.3 in another brand combine and it doesn't do anything like that and its been turned up quite a bit too. Beans gonna be good this yearIJ How do they lookIJ If it stays hot and dry like it is now for much longer we'll have some to cut in a few weeks too...

How many engine hours on the combineIJ Read your operators manual and it tells you that the valve train needs to be setup every 2000 hrs and it is recommended to change_test the injectors. My bet it's a weak injector, don't run an 8.3l for too long with a bad injector or you could be looking at a piston.

I could buy into the governor causing it, except for the part about the engine shaking badly. I don't think the governor would cause that. Is there any chance that something is in the fuel tank rolling aroundIJ Temporarily blocks the fuel when you turn at the endsIJ Does it bellows out black smoke when it does itIJ

sorry I haven't replied to anyone, been out of town for a few days. I think there are 1800 or so engine hours on it. I don't think it's a valvetrain or injector, because it runs very smoothly under load, with plenty of power. Not much smoke except when you first kick the rotor in gear and rev it up, and that's because it's been turned up. It doesn't blow smoke or anything when it's making the noise, but sounds like it's missing. We took the pump off last fall during a break in harvest and got it checked out, they didn't find anything, but it still does it. I think we're going to take it to another place because the mechanic we've had look at it still thinks it's in the pump.

Deaduck: If your engine is what I would describe as fluttering or even a fast surging then your problem is likely a bumper screw adjustment. Very easy to do - right on the lower back side of the pump. Back the screw right out at low idle and your RPM should drop by about 60 to 70 RPM. If not turn the screw in while holding the nut to get the proper increase. Recheck your high idle to make it isn't too high.
