A neighbor had one break on his '03 2366 this fall and he hadn't used the reverser all day.

I don't know if this would make any difference but I always tell my combine operators to throttle the engine clear down and of course make sure all forward travel has stopped before engaging the reverser.

Yes, I have had the same problem with my 2388. local dealer said they had never heard of it before until it happened to ours. But within a week it happened to two other combines in the area. All of these combines are less than three years old. We just welded the crack on the cylinder and it has worked ever since. It makes you rather upset when many of them are doing it, but the company isn't doing anything about it.

Yes, ours split on the top weld. We welded it up and lasted a week before it went again. Ended up robbing a new combine in dealers yard because the new one was on back order. Just another question, has anyone broken the top feeder drive shaft. Ours broke last week and the only one in the system was at a dealer in Pa..

We break them all the time. Any time the engine is running there is hyd. pressure on the top of the cylinder so when they break it will shut you down immediatley. It has nothing to do with how the reverser is operated it is just a weak spot in the system. To keep running the only way to stop the leak is to take the two hoses that go to the cylinder and swap them around on the cylinder itself and then unhook the cylinder from the top lever that it pushes on. This will keep you going but renders your reverser usless. The hoses are metric or at least an odd size so they are virtually impossible to cap off.

You say you break them all the time. We have never broken one, knock on wood. Still makes me think it has somethng to do with the way it is operated.
