Fonz, We used the grate last fall in a 1460...followed makers recommendation of one grate installed in the rear most position ...Our machine has a standard rotor and no chopper but we were real happy with the results ; no roping and the bean straw was nearly as fine as 1660 across fencerow with specialty rotor and chopper...would guess from looking at residue inside machine that probably some more straw residue does go to the sieves but didn't have any problems with that..overall just quite pleased with the grate...would only run one...have not tried small grain straw as we bale all of that so we take the grate out to preserve as much as possible...

I installed the grates you are talking about in a 1480 and 1440 last year in very green beans. They absolutly did nothing to help. All that happened was the grate would plug up because the openings werent large enough and trash would plug the grate. When that happened then the material would pile up at rear of machine and plug beater. NOT GOOD. We ran the machine with the grate and then right next to it in the next 6 rows without it and there was zero difference. Good idea but needs lots of improvement. Just my 2 cents worth
