Check the bearing on the font of the rotor. I was talking to a machanic from our dealers shop and he had just spent the night before changing that bearing and the mounting braket. Seems the bolts came lose and egged the holes.

One of ours would do it with a 30ft head on.Shop foreman said the easy way to fix it is to grind away some of that strange cast piece around the bearing, near the top where it comes very close to the elephant ear wear plates.

on the plate the rotor bearing is mounted check both sides for signs of cracks or loose bolts this causes head to move the plate when you raise and lower the front... then check the bearing if i remeber right the bearing has washers around it if worn it allows for the rotor to move you have probably done this but just check that you have not a losse block on the rotor or a concave go out of adjustment good luck

G'day We had a disturbing knock in our 2388 a couple years back when picking up heavy 36 foot canola swathes. We found the problem to be that the rotor was running too slowly and was starting to shudder because of overload. Dealer suggested we increase RPM and never heard the knocking again. Just something else for you to consider . . Cheers!
