Go with the 9650 STS. The Gleaner R-72 is just a galvenized pheasent feeder.

Go with the 2388, it has a proven record,larger cleaning area, more reliable and it's more adjustable. The STS has been called the "Straight Through Seeder" in our area. Good luck with whatever machine you choose, they are both way to expensive to not perform.

Please!!!! I've seen an R-72 kill every other combine I've seen by it ( from a 9600, 2388, 9750STS, even a 485 Cat) and it's alot more servicable than most of them. I also find it amusing that JD wanted to copy some aspects of Gleaner's machine, but couldn't due to the patents on it. Hmm... Aside from the rant, the STS's seem to perform very well, although I'd go with the case...JD is going to (and to an extent already is) experience what Gleaner did with the N series...needs for updates, little bugs, etc etc. I've heard the STS's dont drink as much fuel (due to the "3 stage" cage). If you dont have too many weedy fields, give a Gleaner a look...they dont digest the weeds as well as a Green or Red machine, but in average conditions, the silver beasts smoke anything else. Best bet would be to try to get a demo of both, and choose whichever one seems to work best for you. Happy harvesting!

The Deere is built a lot heavier then the 2388. With the new holland_case ih merger who knows how the dealership situation will be. You can always count on a deere dealership.

You should see the new unloading auger that they are putting on the 72s its 14 inch diameter and its around 3 bushel a second. So I think its the other way around as far as unloading augers go.

Just got done driving a 9750 sts for harvest with a 32% hillside kit on it. Very happy with the combine, in 100 bu wheat I filled the 250 bu tank in 10 minutes. It wasted less grain then any other combine we have seen yet!

Go with the deere. The STS will keep going later into the night than a 2388 will. A guy a mile away from me had 2 2188's and traded one in for a 9650 STS and the other in for a second grain buggy. last year it worked great. I also have a 9650 STS and with a 8 row corn head on it, go 5 to 6 mph in 150 bpa no problem. All the farmers in our area with red combines quit 1 or 2 hours before the deere guys do. The only other problem with case is that they merged with NH. Deere is the only combine maker that doesn't have some other companies name on the side of the combine. That should tell you something. As far as gleaners go, they are the worst combine you could possibly get, any piece of machinery with the agco name on it, stay away.GlEANERS ARE lOW ClASS!
