I can't answer you on gear removal. I'd guess if you can get puller on it with a good pull you could heat gear quite quickly to swell it enough so it will pull off. Might need so help if not comfortable with this. Here's how I would approach dowel pin and as my memory serves me right. I would carfully measure how long of a dowel pin you can use and cut your own. I believe it will measure basically exactly same of 1_2" bolt. This will likely allow you to have pin in new unworn area. Then loctite it in after cleaning bore with loctite primer. loosely setting intermediate plate and front cover on will help insure dowel is straight enough while loctite sets up. Then when you fasten intermediate plate use gasket eliminator (not silicon product) on both sides of gasket. This gasket eliminator will hold torque laterally. I believe a couple of loctite numbers are 510 and 515. Torque bolts to maximum allowed. Maybe even substitute bolts for grade 8 if not allready grade 8. I believe it would be good to use gasket eliminator on outside gasket as well. This should hold thing well for the rest of its lifespan. Hopefully!!!! Good luck
