No water or gasoline. 4 other engines running out of supply tank with no problems. Will take pump to pump guy tomorrow.

Two things come to mind. First I hope you are not washing pump while hot. This can shrink pump casing which will tighten it up to point of shearing shaft. If washing hot do not run engine for a good hour or more. Second is you need to note if there is oil leak between engine block and intermediate plate. If the bolts holding front and intermediate plates to front of engine have come loose there will be a gear backlash problem (no backlash between idler gear and fuel pump drive gear). This is most likely if there has been or is a front end loader on machine. This will require a tear down of front of engine to renew dowel pin or whatever it takes to hold intermediate plate steady again. I have not seen this on 301 engine but know of at least a couple 426s. 301 and 426 have basically same setup at front of engine so I'm sure this is a posibility. These machines were a 7040 and 7030 and both had years of loader use and leaked bad everywhere including between engine intermediate plate, oil pan, and engine block. Best of luck

Thanks Dan, This tractor is equipped with loader, on both occasions I was working loader, it was lifting a heavy load when pump drive sheared. Oil pan is cracked at front and leaks oil. Not sure if it is leaking between block and intermediate plate. looks as if I need need to tear this thing down and replace dowel as you state.

Good call about the plate. I have a 8030 FWD with a big loader that had this oil leak problem but without injector pump problems. Somebody before me used silicone to try to squeeze between the plate and block to seal it after the bolts had worked loose. That didn't work and I ended up removing the plate and replacing plate, gasket, bolts and dowels. I remember it being a ton of work. Pulling the cam without dropping lifters and I don't remember about the crank gear what had to be done to get plate over gear. Maybe pulled that gear. If this is the problem, about the worst case scenerio.
