Combines 3300 John Deere

My guess would be that your radiator needs boiling. Sounds like some of the tubes could be plugged.

The radiator gets hot because the fins plug with chaff and debris being sucked in thru the engine compartment.

The 7700 gassers did the same thing. I knew a guy who reversed the fan so it sucked from the side directly into the radiator instead of pulling hot engine air through it. He then put a generic rotary cleaner on the side. It solved the problem. I'm not sure if he had to buy a different fan or if it was reversible. If the engine cools ok until later, I think it is just plugging up with chaff after 1_2 a day. I doubt if it needs boiling if reblowing it gets it going again.

Sounds like a good idea to me....too bad Deere couldn't think of that at the time of original design. I would hate to even guess what a 7700 drank in gasoline. I have heard of aftermarket rotary scrreens to correct this problem......anyone have any info on where a guy could look to find oneIJ My combine runs good and stays cool as long as you can keep the chaff out of the fins.

Give Shoup Manufacturing, of Kankakee, Il, a call. They provide a lot of parts to Deere on the older combines. You can buy direct and save considerable money. If they don't have the conversion kit, they might beable to refer you to someone. 800-627-6137.

Deere made a conversion kit for the flat screen machines back in the late 70s. A friend of mine had one of them installed on a 6600 gas he had. Gas engines run hotter so they had more trouble with overheating. I have a 4400 diesel with the flat screen, and have never had any problems with it overheating As long as I blow the radiator fins out with an air hose about twice a season. Also if you replace the bottom screen with a piece of sheet metal it won't suck near as much trash into the engine box.

The conversion kit would probably be more expensive than the combine is valued. I just wonder if the local combine junkyard later model 3300's rotary screen assemblies would work on my combine. The idea of putting sheet metal on the lower screen makes good sense too.

you can use the rotary screen housing off an old gleaner. they are driven by the air movement, the deeres use a belt drive. ther are lots of old siver machines around. they just pull up and off, mount to outer housing of deere and use the fan reversed . seen amny old gaas , flat sided deere swithed over that way.
