Combines 3500 engine O haul

If going to bother of opening up an engine, I would certainly do it right. New pistons and liners, check oil pump, cam shaft, etc. 145 should be easy. My 7060 does 175 without even hustling. Before going into major fuel pump changes I would look at cost of an innercooler as used on 7060, 8050, they do increase fuel effiecncy(sp) quite a bit. There should be 'coolers in salvage yards on combine engines.

If you are going through the engine be sure to replace the injectors or have them professionally rebuilt. The stock injectors are prone to dripping after alot of use. With fresh innards you tractors should be close to 150 pto hp anyway. If you want a little more be sure that your no load high idle is near 2600 rpm.

We had a 7045 that put out 175 hp, but it was always getting hot so we changed the radiator from a 7060. It than ran cool. We had 4700 hrs when we traded it with no problems. I think if you would put the intercooler on it you would have to change the radiator, but then you would have a 7060 engine.

It is important to replace the liners, pistons, and rings at the same time. The heat of the engine allows them to harden together. If you replace the rings only, they will not seat properly. This will allow for continued oil consumption equal to or greater than before. Take it from someone who tried the shortcut on an IH 1086.
