You bet, you can weld beads of weld along each knife part of each roll and if you want then hard surface them!! I remember when my dad did that on his 443 corn head, he got many more years out of thoughs stalk rolls infact till he traded up to a 643. hope this helps

alls ya gotta do is weld beads on the rolls ware the knife were so that way there is a new serface. i did taht on the 444 head and the rolls lasted another 8 years. i had taken them to a weldin shop and got them welded so that way there was the hard weld so it would last longer. farmerboy

JD makes the kit to add to heads - you have to buy a special template to add holes to the row unit frames for the deckplate pivots on the 40 series. Gg

Only ones I have found - Deere makes them. It's actually a kit that contains a special punch and template. Costs around $60 - it is only needed on 40 series row units that dont have keyhole cutouts on the lH side of the row unit frames and from what I've seen only earlier heads need the tamplate and punch.
