Combines 410 problem

A couple of things to check... Check your beater shaft speed and make sure the combine is up to speed. If memory serves the beater shaft should turn 710rpm. Read your owner's manual, the procedure is explained in great detail there. Also, make sure you don't have a loose belt on the straw walker drive or the belt running from the secondary countershaft to the clean grain and return augers. Check the slip clutch on the return auger (if it hasn't already been welded solid) and make sure it is in proper working order. One other thought, is your under walker pan plugging before the rethrasher stops or afterIJ This is a long shot but I once had a devil of a time with a rethrasher stopping all the time. What I eventually found was there was a 1_4" nut running around inside the combine that had been dropped while doing some repair work. The nut would not go out of the system and would go round and round until it eventually would stop in the rethrasher. let us know how you come out. Doc

My suggestion would be to be sure you have the concave_cylinder clearance set close enough, so that the material is being chewed up and pulled through. Then I would check the beater behind the cylinder to make sure it isn't missing some vanes and and check the fingers that are between the concave and the walkers to make sure they are not broken or missing allowing the material to fall on the grain pan. I used to have a 410 Diesel and it was a real bean machine. It would go as fast with a 13ft head as an 850 with a 20ft head. The secret to getting maximum performance from your 410 is to have good cylinder bars and run a tight concave. Good luck, I hope this will help you.

Yup, I think you're right about the concave clearance. I had it tight until I slugged it on some green stalks. Slugged it real good. Then I opened it up wide. The field was dry and the beans threshed out fine. Then I started having problems. Rained all day today, be back out next week. Thanks for the help.

It is possible you may be sending too much through the returns system. Make sure chaffer and seives are open enough to pass as much clean beans as possible - lots of air, board paralel to throat top. Check for any hard dirt buildup on pan, as this does not allow the material to convey forward. As always, only run cylinder fast enough to thresh out. Any extra threshing creates more trash to deal with. You don't happen to have holes in the walker mesh, allowing extra to drop in here. One of the walkers should have a deflector on the bottom of it to direct material onto pan and forward. Good luck!
