No not to small on R42. Go back to post on 9-13-03 and let us know exactly what you have did. From your other post chain life can vary greatly from crops, conditions, quality , and size of chain. We seldom replaced the lighter OEM 550 chain prior to 1000 hours or the heavier OEM 557 prior to 1500 hours. Of course some are due prior to this and some aren't half wore out at this.

Sometimes I overlook basic things. We had a unit plugging the other day and we found the sprockets in the rear on the pivot shaft had walked to the lH side and the chain was almost rubbing the lH wall. This will cause the chain to hit the angle when loaded and of course slip the chain. Moved the sprockets and back came the capacity.

Yes don't forget the basics first. How about the odd thingsIJ Pulling our teeth out one time for clutch just kept breaking loose. This was an R70 that was very fine tuned. Ends up bearing next to slip clutch was failing but was not noticeable. Finally the bearing got tired enough and spit a piece of bearing down onto axle. Another one was right bearing holder on R72 which is pivot point for feeder had come loose and would pivot just enough while going threw ditch or something and boom feeder clutch slips out. Feeders were never packed tight on these machines. It is funny what all you can run into if you live long enough. Take care
