Have you checked the thermostat IJ They have been known to stick open or stick closed. Hope this helps. lucky luke

If changing the thermostat doesn't help, you will probably have to get the radiator boiled. You might have some plugged tubes.

Check the water pump impeller if it is corroded it won't pump enough water thru the radiator thus causing overheating. let me know how you make out.

If it is a flat screen...you wont keep it from running hot. I have the same problem with my 3300 gas. You can plug every hole you can possibly find but you wont cure the problem. That is why Deere came out with the rotary screen to keep the air entering the fan and radiator cleaner. On the old models the airflow is from engine shrouds thru the engine compartment and radiator and out via the fan. The updated newer ones pulled the air thru the rotating screen across the radiator and thru engine shrouds. You will grow old before you will keep the old gassers from getting hot if it is a flat screen.

The 292 chev engines had a problem with the distributor point cam rusting tight to the distributor shaft which prevents any spark advance and causes overheating. Hook a timing light to the engine and make sure you are getting smooth timing advance as you increase rpm. The distributor shaft has a little felt pad under the rotor which needs a few drops of oil every year(nobody remembers to do this) to prevent rusting and sticking. If yours is stuck, remove the rotor and use solvent to free it up then oil. A small vicegrip on the rotor shaft will help you work the advance mechanism untill free.

we had the same problem, even overhaauled it, the cam thing and everything. boiled radiator, etc. we could never get it to run under ther "RED". the manifold would glow cherry red. we just ended up trading for a nice diesel 4400. we were never sorry about that move. it was such a better way of powering it . just our expereince.
