4440's are way to overpriced. You can buy a 4840 for half that much.

we also have a 4840. it has plenty of power to pull the 40 feet of 9400 john deere hoe drills. the problem with the 4840 is it should really ba a front wheel assist. we notice a lot od tire wear on the tractor. they do have to much power for around the farm jobs. any comments

You can buy more tires to put on a 180 horse $15000 tractor but at least you can run larger implements with a 4840. We had 3 of them and pulled 40 foot Glencoe field cultivators and 28 foot discs. Never had any major troubles with them. A local farmer had an 1981 model 4840 with the motor blown. Took it to deere for a new motor. He went bellyup and had to sale out. Drove the 4840 home from Deere with a brand new motor with about 2 tenths of an hour and sold at auction for $12,000. With tank and pump!!!
