Combines 470 or 9650sts

I had the pleasure of running into a farmer at the Clay County Fair last week who quit harvesting his crops a few years ago due to a lack of labor. He now has a custom cutter do the work with lexions. He seemed completely unbiased to me. His comment was that based on HP, the amount the lexion would do compared to any other machine he had seen was huge. I think all of them had been the walker style, and I don't think the cutter had ever had a 480. For all out performance in the field, the lexion probably has the edge right now against any other make. Personally, that does not make up for the complexity and additional service required. However, in your case if you have a good Cat dealer and need huge capacity, it might just be the ticket.

It still amases me how people can look at a lexion, complain about how complex it is and not look at a Deere. Truth be known, the Deere has more drives on it than any other machine made.

I'm not saying I like the complexity of any of the current generation. Give me a decked out 1688 (with some updates) that doesn't break down (if there is such a thing) and I'll be happy. :)

The number of moving parts was a common concern years ago, but it seems to be less of an issue lately. As far as I'm concerned, the Deere STS's and Cat lexions are BOTH too complex. I'll stick to my Deere conventionals, and if I move to any rotary, It'll probably be either a Gleaner or a Massey; - simplicity makes sense, and I could care less about anyone else's marginally higher capacity combines.

We ran four 9650 STS's last year and have four 470 lexions this year. There are a lot of features on the lexion that I like. Especially the lexion operator station is far superior to anything else. It would be interesting to see the lexion after about 1300 separator hours to better compare. I would be glad to answer detailed questions and strongly recommend that you demo a lexion before you buy. Make sure it is the new R-series. Many changes have been made to them as I was explained by ClAAS employees.

if the 470 is what your thinking about, then maybe compare it to a 9650 CTS. best of both worlds. conventional cyl. w_ twin rotors in place of walkers. I would like to see deere push this machine more than they have. simple truth sir is you demo both. give them your best test and see which works best for you. and if you can get your hands on a CTS try that. you may be surprised at the outcomeIJIJIJIJ i've been in a 470 and liked it,but the dealer support is an issue, and our deere dealer has been excellent.
