Yes, I used to get mine from NAPA. We used to change them right in the field if they got noisey.

I know what you mean by pricey. I had an AGCO STAR from 1996 to 2002. Joint went out and damaged the Yoke. Cost $850 to replace it. Couldn't find one anywhere else.

There was a model up from the 4900 wasn't thereIJ 5200 maybeIJ The Agco Star and the other model MF were pretty much the same tractor more or lessIJWas wondering if anybody had a opinion on how much getting the aircleaner and some of the exhaust out from under the hood helps horsepower. Was wondering if it would be worth converting my 4880. Will need new muffler next year and looking around air intake gets old after awhile.

Yes, when MF closed down the assembly line on the 4800 series tractors a man named McConell bought the rights to build it along with some of the parts inventory. He got a contract with MF to supply tractors through MF dealers. He only built about 13 tractors, all 5200's with 425 HP Detroit engines and Alison Automatic transmissions. These were Red, just like the 4800's. Had a hard time selling or working with MF and his contract was finally cancelled. He then renamed his tractor McConell Marc and it was painted yellow. He sold fewer of these and finally quit. I have literature on both colors in my file. He sold potato harvestors out of his store in Grand Forks ND. He came out to my place to try to sell me one of these tractors when he was here once. He put the tractors together in his South Carolina Plant.

As to the air intake. I think your 4800 is best where it is. It took quite a bit of plumbing to get it to the rear of the cab on the AGCO STAR and it was not without problems. There were updates due to the pipeing getting holes woren in it from rubbing and the position seemed bad for collecting trash and plugging the intake. I spent about $400 to put a cyclone precleaner on it that had a big screen. It did help.
