Combines 510 and flex head

We run a 16' flex head in soybeans with average yields in the 50-60 bu. range. The machine handles it pretty well as long as the beans are fairly clean. If we get into a weedy field we put on a 13' head to keep our ground speed up.

I use my 510 mainly for hi-moisture corn on my dairy farm. Also cut some oats every year for my neighbor with a 13 ft rigid head. Want to try some soybeans for the first time this year. How good (or bad) would the 13 ft rigid head work in beansIJ

If your in hilly country you'll probably pick up alot of dirt with a ridgid head. That and leave a few beans in the field if the pods are low to the ground. If your beans are down it will be a real problem. With a 13' flex head you can harvest beans without an automatic header height control. It's at times a tough job but it can be done. The auto header busted on our 510 this year and we didn't have time to repair it during harvest. We got it done without it but it was very aggervating.

we run a 13 foot flex in hilly beans i wish i had automatic hieght control very aggrevating is an understatement you end up very worn out by the time you get to the last field..... and the bottom of your header looks worn out too -Mark in Ontario.
