Combines 516 engine head gasket trouble

Not familiar with 516 but any time I have head gasket problems I get a bottoming tap and clean the threads in the block and make sure the bolts don't bottom out. Then polish the bolt threads with a wire brush and oil the threads and under the shoulder of the bolt to reduce all friction when torquing. I always reface heads when gasket blows. Does it blow in the same spot every timeIJ Does the engine ever run hotIJ

The engine didn't seem to run hotter than it should and I don't remember if it blew in the same spot or not, I seem to remember that it blew between cylinders. Could this be a fuel pump timing problem or perhaps a sleeve not seated all the wayIJ

the problem can be complicated. i would lean towards a counterbore problem. not only does the head need to be resurfaced or at least checked when problems like this happen but the top of the block needs a lot of attention. not only does liner protrusion need to be checked but the condition of the counterbores them self. it is likely that the block needs some machine work also. the other problem with this engine is in torque of the headbolts. this old engine should be run at operating temps and then stripped back down and retorqued. the alternative is to overtorque bolts. this should be done carefully and i only did it after much experimenting and many conversations with the factory.drop me an e-mail at vstnabb@aol.com and i will answer more specifly if you need more help..........vstk
