Go with the 800 series head it will feed in short beans much better than the 500 or 300 series. If purchasing the head new get a crary air reel for it you will love the performance. An R52 should be able to handle either a 20 or 25ft head with little difficulty.

Obviously I would say the newer the better. I found the 800 to be a good step up over the 500 mostly due to the updates on the header height controls. Unfortunately price seems reflects quality. I would suggest a 20 or 25 ft. for a R52. I have a 525 with a new AWS air reel for sale if you are interested
