Wish you lived a little closer to Iowa. Have been looking for a good 1144 corn head. Still am, I guess. HH

someone in the KMA listening area was selling a 444 deere head for 1000 bucks. This is a lot better head than an 1144. I have had both.

Will the JD 444 cornhead fit on a 510IJ If so, I'll expand my search to include one. That's the combine I'm wanting to update the cornhead on. Thanks!

sure will. Get in touch with harvey bish. I think he has a website by that name. Probably can find one on a sale for a hundred bucks or so. I had a 410 many years ago and I used one of his adapter plates to mate a 454 deere row head on there and it worked just fine. later I used the thing on a newer 550 which is same as your 510. The deere corn head is lighter and will way outlast the massey in my experience. good luck.. GS

I couldn't resist getting into this corn head debate since I have both a MF 1163 and a JD 693 head. They both have their good and bad points, but if I were looking for a 4 row head to put on a 510 I would look for nothing other than an 1144 MF head. You could buy a virgin 1144 for the same money as a worn out 444 JD head and in many ways the MF head is a better head. They have adjustable stripper plates that can all be changed while the same song is on the radio. If the flutes get worn out, you can put on a new set yourself for $48 per row. The MF head is a lower profile and will not plug in hot dry fluffy conditions like the JD. This is not to say the JD is not a good head, just that the bargain here would be an 1144 head.

I have had both too. The massey flutes don't last a third as long as the rolls on the deere, and when the flutes are smooth, they are worthless. When the deere rolls are worn, the still work. The massey has wonderful cheesey bearings on the front of the rolls and wear out accordingly fast since they are always in the dirt. The massey equally cheesey non greaseable idlers for the gathering chains and wear out in short order compared to the deere's greaseable ones which seem to go for way longer than they should. I never changed the strippers for either so that is a wash for me since I sure wouldn't stop in the middle of the field to adjust it anyhow. The sealed gearboxes on the deere are so far superior to the massey or anything else I have ever seen it is no contest. The deere is just as low a profile as the old massey, and I think the deere goes through down corn a whole lot better. They both plug if you try to push real dry corn though them. If you want to sell them, one has value, and the other is such you have to find someone who even wants one. They both will work, one is better. GS

How much for the 1144 corn head if you will sell separately. I have a 550 MF with a 16 foot bean head with aluminum reel. Reels need parts.
