Yes it was the last year of the IH engine, but not the short sieves. Don't have chart in front of me right now but think change came in '89.

The 1660s_1680s were changed to a Cummins engine on April 1, 1989. At the same time, Case switched to the smaller numbers at the back of the machine. As far as seives, there never were any 1660 "long seive" models produced for the North American market, "long Seives" were introduced on on the 1644_66 series combines. later 1680s did have a long Seive, though.

SD Man: I have seen a 1660 built in Aug-Sep 1992 that was sold new to some people we know. I saw the combine brand new in October 1992 and I know what I saw. This machine had the long 1666 sieves and the squirrel cage fan. The owner was told that only a few 1660's were made like the 1666 and they were really a pilot production run for the 1666 which was introduced in 1993. There were a couple of other changes to the hydro system also. I have never looked at the late 1660 parts book and don't even know if these late versions of the 1660 were mentioned. I have never seen another 1660 like it.

Geirge, I do believe you about this. I remember CaseIH had an update program for some "preproduction units" back in 1993 or 1994 that dealt with some early "prototypes" and other things that were not "regular production" on 1660s_80s. I never payed a lot of attention to this update as we never had any units like this. I remember someone telling me about a 1680 long Seive that had a "factory" CrossFlow fan in it, but I cannot confirm. It would be more than just "pure speculation" that there were some combines produced like this.

SD Man: This unit had a regular 1660 serial number and it was the highest I have seen on a 1660. There were no EXP numbers either on the serial number. It had regular 1992 model 1660 decals also. I got to look at it immediately after it was delivered and before it went into the field. The dealer even told the owner that it had some new features that were going to be put on next years models. I checked the paint and bolts around the long sieve and the squirrel cage fan to see if these parts were dealer installed. The paint was factory and had not been disturbed.

Evidently they did make last 1660_80 with all the changes going into 1666_88, they issued parts books for these combines and some service bulletins, never seen any or had any in our areas that I am aware of, perhaps for export IJ
