I personally loves my new 635 flex head. We purchased 2 new 9860's this fall both equipped with the new flex head. The extra five feet made a lot of difference to us, there were some spots that it got tight, but all in all we loved it. The only problem we had with them, was the skid plate underneath the ball joints at each end of the cutter bar kept wearing out.. However we solved that problem with a different aftermarket plate that didnt wear as bad..

I run a 635 flex on a 9860 and love the job the head does but in really tough beans had a few times that the feeder house would block up and had a tech out and can't seem to figure out the problem. any suggestions. As far a putting a 600 series on a 9600 that require quite a bit to get the hydroflex to work right. Some extra displays in the cab and so forth. I know it can be done on a 50 series but not sure on a 9600.

We put a 630 head on a 1994 9600 we had a 924 before we cut up to 5 mph about header control worked real well we had very wet ground in SW MN. we realy liked the bigger dia auger and the full finger auger it fed a lot better than the old hd I didnt like changingh the first 20 sickle sections because they have four bolts compared the other sections that have two bolts per section, sickle wear seemed to be some what high like the price hope this helps--Dean

I can give you alot help if your going to put a 600 series head on a 9600. First they will tell you that you don't need the wedge kit but after replacing sections and guards every three hours they decided that we needed the wedge kit. Next don't get deeres conversion for the dial-a-matic. Go to http:__www.headsight.com_headerconvert.html, The dial-a-matic conversion is a joke. To many linkages and the sensativity gets lost. With the wedge kit you can get the sickle angle right and not tilted forward which made this head work 100% better. After figuring out all the problems I like the head but deere should have done more research on their conversion packages. Good luck

How Does the hydro float work on the older combinesIJ What does it take to make it workIJ Thanks

They have a kit that is installed in the cab with a pressure gauge and a rocker switch to raise or lower the pressure. These heads have no adjustment for cut height. They will cut the same no matter were you set your dial-a-matic control. There is a six inch float in the cutterbar and the pressure you set in the cab determines how hard it has to push on the pads to get a raise signal. In soft ground you want it set so the pads require less pressure to sense and in hard ground you want more pressure. I run mine on the first click on the dail-a-matic knob because the head is flexed the most and gives you more of the six inch range to work in. You can get a stub shaft that will bolt on to the sprocket on your combine so you don't have to change it to hook up to the pto type shaft.

The heads are expensive to install on both hundred and ten series machines. About 7000. The single biggest issue is getting the head leveled after installation. The wedge kit will get the attitude close enough. The 60 series machines have an adjustable tilt angle which the wedge kit makes up for. Ideally you want the flat part of the skid plate flat on the ground. Just like the 900 series heads if it is tilted to far back you end up wtih decreased height sensing and a tendency for the heads to plow. If you tilt any cutterbar to far back it will plow worse than to far forward. Also taller skid shoes are available and shorter stone dams and even sections with longs and shorts which help in no till corn and milo.

THE SECTIONS ON THE 600 SERIES CAN BE BOUGHT WITH ONE HAlF OF THE SECTION STANDARD lENGTH AND THE OTHER POINT ON THAT SECTION HAlF THE lENGTH OF THE STANDARD SECTION TO AllOW MIlO AND CORN STAlKS INTO THE GAURDS IN NO-TIll GROUND.
