Combines 635F in wheat

Ran a 30ft flex during the wheat harvest all year. never got the thing to feed all year. messed with the auger and the the only thing i can say is have the reel all the way back and speed up the reel so you beat it in. you will have some fly out of the header but it helps and lets you speed up. just watch out for the slugs that form on the edges of the header because they will plug you up.

Just a thing to try, get the drum as far forward and down, so it can get down low and more in front of the floor stipper. then adjust the back stripper as close as you can get it. I have found that until the paint wears off, new heads do not feed good in wheat. Back a few years ago paint would come off in a day or two, and now it takes up to a week to get the head to shine up. Biggest problem we have had is the crop will try to wrap around the drum when it gets to the center of the head.

I am not sure if this will help you but I got a new New Holland 73c flex head last year that has the full finger auger. It would not feed the long straw down wheat I had this year at all. It would do as yours is. What I did was start removing fingers from the auger. I took out three from each side from the center. I could then feed good and was going as fast as I wanted to. Seems the auger was wanting to wrap the wheat around it and then feed it in wads. I had tried moving the strippers like you did but taking out some fingers helped the most. I agree with Ilnewholland, you'll probably have the best improvement by removing some of the inboard fingers between the flighting 3' to 8' on both sides of center. Even with 5" deep flighting, there just is not enough cavity behind the auger to let it feed in without carrying over the auger. You should also check to see that there is a smooth transition from the outboard stripper and the inboard stripper. Sometimes the inboard one is below or ahead of the outboard one. Straw will catch on this and be carried over the auger. The auger rubbing on the stripper is a big frustration. Center supported augers and drives will eventually help resolve this problem.
