look at the cutting knives and the gathering belts. Belts are $100 each. Not sure about the price of the knives. These are the heart of the head. If they are bad,it won't work. I seen one this year,it was pushing the beans over. As for prices,I could of bought a 1990 in great shape for $3000 from a dealer in central Il. Seen a decent 453A on an auction went for $800. They've gotten cheaper in the last few years. Steve J

I had a 1253A for many years: If you get a good one, to maintain it well, keep the lateral chain very tight and well lubed - I would recommend JB80 chain lube, and keep the cutter adjusted just right, the lower hub of the rotating knife should be warm to the touch after running a few hours. Routine each day is to check this at shutdown and write down numbers that are cool, and tighten each one (usually one flat) before running again. They feed a combine the best way I've seen.
