Combines 653A Row Crop Head Questions

My friend larry had a row crop head before he went to the flex head. The flex head is better and faster. you dont have to worry about the belts breaking or anything happening to the stalk rollors because there are none on a flex. As for faster, the flex is faster because you dont have to harvest the way you planted, you can go as you please unlike the row crop head that makes you follow down the rows with the row units.

It doesn't sound like "statboy" has his stats right..I have run and owned row heads since '77. I have never seen nor heard of any gathering belt breaking, wear out till they are too loose to stay on maybe. The speed advantage is not to the table..rather to the row head which can be set up to run as fast as your machine can eat the material. 7720 can run an 8-30's wide open in third which is about 7 mph. Best advantage to the row head is the head loss, or rather lack of it. Usually never can count an actual loss of more than .5 BPA. Try to get within three bpa of that in these dry beans we have had with a table. 'Course if you have drilled beans, you get to watch those suckers fly off all day long whether you like it or not. Some guys put them on other brands of machines but without the variable feeder house it is a bear when you slow down, pulls out the plants roots and all. Can buy a nice 653A for about 1500 bucks and get it up in good shape for about 2 grand more. If you want to know more , reply to this and I will tell you more than you can digest in one setting.

I too, have used a R_C head for many years and have never had a belt break. They don't have "stalk rollers"; rather a rotating six-bladed knife under the gathering belts at the front of each row unit. These knives must be kept sharp and well adjusted. That's one disadvantage to a R_C head, they are a high maintainence machine. Properly adjusted, they will cut circles around a platform but are more sensitive to bad crop conditions: I always felt I could start cutting beans a little earlier in the day and cut a little longer in the evening with a reel. If you have any more specific questions, please post and we'll try to answer..

I agree with greenstrat and KRV 100%. I haven't seen a customer that didn't like his row crop head. like the other guys stated, less grain loss, higher speeds.

I never said that it was my row crop head, Its what I have heard from my friend larry that runs a 9500. I would never buy a Deere combine anyway, will always red or silver.

that explains your ignorance. It does not eplain why you professed knowledge of something you had absolutely no idea at all of what you were talking about to the guy who just wanted to know some facts. FYI... harvey bish has made adapter plates for your other than deere separator, too..and it works just as sweetly there as on the green one. If you tried it you would be shocked at the performance. Chus...
