Combines 6600 Combine

chopper area, sheetmetal for cracks around the bearings and housing, also check the sheetmetal around the area where the walkers are, if the chopper goes out of balance, that area is stressed and vibrated really bad. variable speed cylinder adjustment, the top pulley with the chain coming from the top shaft and going to the bottom pulley, that sprocket with two sets of teeth has a tendency to wear on the inside, that is easy to replace, but make sure it hasn't worn too bad on the pulley itself. walkers and sieves will tell a lot about what the combine has harvested and what was run through it. if they are all beat up, even unrepairable sometimes, it's best to walk away. most of them can be straightened though. the 6600 was a decent machine, if it can be had for the right price (probably around $8k for all in your case) then go at it. good luck

OK went to take a look. The machine does not have the rotary screen. Overall condition is good. Has 3000 hours on tach. Engine has been overhauled, transmission has been replaced, main drive pulley has new bearings and it has a new auger tube. No obvious cracks in sheet metal around chopper or walkers. Only cob-house area seems to be some of the light wiring. Also it has the new style grain tank auger (whatever that isIJ) All work was done by John Deere Dealer. Combine has a 15' platform with floating cutterbar and hydraulic variable speed reel and a 4 row 30" low profile corn head. My only real concern is on the left side of the concave pivot, where the bolt goes into the outside piece of angle, the angle has been bent and has had another l shaped piece bolted above it. Owner says if a slug enters the cylinder it can cause the concave to drop without it. Oh yeah, it also had new batteries this spring and the drive shaft for the augers under the comcave has been replaced. Any thoughtsIJ Think it is worth $3200 IJ

WHEWEE! Jump on that puppy. That is a heck of a buy with all you mentioned. Even if you have to throw $2,000-3,000 into it you still are getting a decent machine!!! Where is this gem locatedIJIJIJIJIJIJIJIJIJIJIJIJIJ

OK guys and thanks for the advice. There was one bad thing I forgot to mention. The tires are not the best I ever saw! Probably will need replaced in the next couple of years. I also forgot to mention the guy says the concave and cylinder were rebuilt about 4 years ago. The son was there and said if I wanted he would help get me started with the machine. Problem is that the corn head is in 30" rows and we are planted in 40" rows this year! I can change the planter without too big a hassel, but that wont help this year. Red, the combine is about 20 miles west of Dayton, Ohio. Thanks for all the help guys.

Wow, My dad bought a really nice 4 row 30" corn head for his 7720 for $3500, and we thought that was a good price. Good corn heads in our area go for about $1000 per row.

Good luck with the machine Baldy. It sounds like it had decent maintenance through the years. You can pick up used tires and rims at Bryant Combine in Bryant Indiana. That is one heck of a combine junkyard. It is just north of Portland, IN on US 27.
