That's fine the way you have it. To my knowledge all you ever need the plates for between the bars is corn. How fast is your cylinder runningIJ Book recommends between 850 to 1000 if I remember correctly and I always ran mine near 900 to 1000. Also, when you pull the concaves clear up that's only one half that's moving. The other end pivots on an eccentric. Might check and see if that's out of whack.........otherwise, your bars or concaves are probably shot. later Deerebines

We usally run the cylinder speed around 1050 to 1100 in wheat, with concave open about 1_8". Depends on the year and brand seed.
